Plywood Presents
“Where You Are”
Branding, Illustration
2020
Much like everything in 2020, Plywood People’s annual conference, Plywood Presents, required change.
The event would be hosted online with a virtual deep dive into social entrepreneurship, purpose, and leadership in pivotal moments.
Together, we developed the conference theme “Where You Are” to speak to the change that would be required for the event.
On one hand, the theme speaks to the digital accessibility of the content: that it can be tuned in by anyone, wherever they may be.
On the other hand, it also speaks to the programming of the content as well: it’s easy to believe that all of the best things are happening somewhere else, but what if your purpose is unfolding right now, where you are, in front of you? Change begins here. Right now. With you.
I developed a hand-drawn, human-centered lettering for the conference theme, “Where You Are.” The supporting artwork features a gold line that runs around, behind, across and through all of the visual elements on a page in order to connect things that are otherwise separate.
This visual idea culminated in large-scale, key artwork showing people of all walks of life being connected by the golden thread that represents the event.
The golden thread connects all of these different individuals, wherever they are, and creates rich images of a separate-but-connected community for the event.
This came together in a direct mail campaign brochure, featuring a gatefold that opens from the center to unfold into a larger 4-panel piece that details the who, what, when, and how of the event.
On the back of the brochure, a blank was left for recipients to write-in where they will be tuning in from, and then post it to social media.
Social media templates and other promotional graphics for the event branding were provided as well, in addition to a pack of graphics and assets for build out on the marketing microsite and email newsletters.
